I've been building custom web-sites and corporate web software for over 30 years.

I depend on code and coding techniques that last for decades at a time. That means I focus on raw perl, few-if-any dependencies, written in the most boring of styles, for decades-later easy review. Code speed means nothing without developer speed.

I just got to play with code that I wrote 20-years ago, that's been in daily business use by human hands, that I hadn't seen in over 10 years. Probably the best fun I've ever had. And I got paid to do it!

I built my platform on top of perl. So my platform is perl, and my application-code is not. I depend on that platform to remain robust no matter what's thrown at it. Perl has always been my choice for future-proof strategies.

(that's not some new-fangled emoji. that's a gift from my kindergarten teacher, four decades ago, to her graduating students. she was scolded for being nice to her students...because other teachers weren't. forty-odd years later, it reminds me to appreciate kindness, towards me as well as towards others.)
